ABOUT US
Umarike Expeditions opened as a small business eight years ago renting mountain bikes to travellers exploring the Copper Canyon - since then it has grown considerably. NOW catering to the needs of the Outdoor people, we supply high quality guided trips and service for small groups of people who are seeking true adventure in remote areas of the world. We have gained substantial experience having worked with companies such as Oupost Wilderness Adventures, Copper Canyon Lodges, and Remolino Adventure Works, This is not including many customized multi-day mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing trips that we have organized during the past seven years. Your leader guide Arturo Gutierrez has completed several mountain leader and rock climbing courses in Wales, UK and Colorado, USA and is also a wilderness first responder. In June 2000 he joined a successful alpine expedition to the Bolivian Andes to summit at 20,000 ft. (6,000 mts aprox.)
Of course, as we live in the area
we know the best routes and views for you to enjoy.
You must not forget that this is
also home to the Tarahumara people who live a long forgotten life
style - well, from the western world point of view anyway!! These
are the famous long distance foot runners and their endurance
will surely amaze you - their traditions and their own language
still hold strong against the increasing contact they have with
outsiders and their homes in caves and log cabins are a true
pleasure to see blending in with the area.
- Our trips are very well organized
and provide the best of service. They are not tours!!!
- Our guides are professional and
fluent in both English and Spanish.
- We are a mine of information
concerning the area, natural history, the local culture and the Tarahumara
people.
- We are genuinely interested in
our clients - their needs, who they are, and what they have to
say and in providing them with a supportive, challenging and fun environment
during their trip.
What more can we say - come with us
and ENJOY!
Coming with us to the Copper Canyon
not only means enjoying the sport of your choice but delighting
in the beauty of the area - climbing from the great expanse of
the Chihuahua desert to the pine covered sierra around Creel,
splattered with the most amazing rock formations and blessed with
a most serene natural lake - descending again into the canyons
where you experience a tropical climate to suit the pitaya
cactus, avacado, papaya, mango, lime and many more trees that
grow there and, at the end of the road, an old colonial mining
town situated down "in the middle of nowhere" where you
can relax in its laid back atmosphere and learn of the history
surrounding it.
