ENTRY INTO MEXICO
On entering Mexico you are required to obtain a tripist card at the border office - you must
be able to show your passport as ID. If arriving in Mexico by air you will be able to obtain
your tripist card at the airport.
TIPS
Stores in this area supply a fair selection of groceries and also drinking water. If you want
to wander off the beaten track it is advisable to buy your groceries in Creel first and always
carry either a water filter or water purifying tablets.
Hitch hiking is also another good way to get around but again you have to be careful and it is
wiser when doing this to travel in small groups and do not in any circumstances hitch hike
after dark.
If entering Mexico in your own vehicle you will need your title in the driver’s name, drivers
license and will have to pay a fee of around US$15. Credit card is a must unless you have
enough cash to deposit about half of your vehicule value.
The people here in this area are generally very friendly and helpful but please note that along
with the rest of the world there can always be an exception to the rule.
Camping is possible almost anywhere in the Copper Canyon but you should always be careful.
Also, if not camping in a designated campsite you will find it necessary to pack up all your
goods and carry them with you or you may come back from a short hike to find that you no longer
have a tent or sleeping bag.
